What is the best hybrid car for gas mileage and affordability?

  1. There are many Hybrid models available, from Honda Civic, Toyota Prius, to Lexus RX400h. The mileage for each vehicle is different just like the everyday cars. The top 3 gas mileage hybrids are Honda Insight (65), Toyota Prius (48), and Honda Civic (48). Price on these hybrids are usually very close to MSRP due to the high demand. If you can use something bigger, we would suggest the Toyota Highlander Hybrid. The mileage of this SUV can get up to 28 and still drives like a V8. 2. Hi, Assuming that affordability is the reason for a possible selection of a hybrid vehicle over a conventionally powered vehicle let's look at it like a business formula. To compare two vehicles (hybrid or not) for operating expenses (mostly fuel) plus cost of ownership (mostly payments) you should look at the following: Cost of each vehicle over a reasonable finite time period operating it as you intend to operate the vehicle less the recovery allowance at the end of this period and less the possible tax allowances afforded during this period. These figures will reflect differences in financing as well as how many miles you intend to drive and also be affected by the trade-in or resale value after this period is over. Much to my dismay--as I truly wanted to own a hybrid--my calculations with my driving style and amount do not make any of the hybrid designs cost less than any similar conventional vehicles. Based on these calculations, I chose a conventional powered vehicle. I get less mileage with it, to be sure, but I pay less per year to drive it. Only you can do the math! You may be a higher mileage driver than I and will benefit from the hybrid since the more miles you drive, the more relative fuel savings you will experience. I just don't happen to drive enough to warrant it from my overall financial aspect. Good luck in selecting your vehicle. I hope this has given you a useful perspective in what constitutes an "affordable" vehicle.
